Description:
The scope of this project is to infill a missing link, the "Issaquah Gap," in the major regional and cross-state trail system. Specifically, construction of the one-third mile multiple-use trail will add a link to the I-90 cross-state trail and connect two regional trails: the Issaquah-High Point and East Lake Sammamish Regional Trails. This linkage will serve non-motorized trail users from the Cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Issaquah, Redmond, and Sammamish and will fill one of the six identified gaps in the I-90 Trail/Mountains to Sound Greenway Trails System that begins at the Seattle waterfront and follows I-90 across the Cascade Mountain Range to the Columbia River. This missing link is located within the city-owned First Avenue NE right-of-way and is located between the Sunset/I-90 Interchange (Exit #18) and East Lake Sammamish Parkway in the City of Issaquah. With construction of this segment of the I-90 cross-state trail, several local, regional, and statewide non-motorized trail objectives will be met. The City of Issaquah, King County, and WSDOT have identified in their respective planning documents that completion of the regional and statewide trail system is a high priority as a non-motorized and recreational trail corridor. The proposed project design is for a grade-separated ten-foot wide asphalt paved trail with two-foot graveled shoulders.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
