Steamboat Rock - Campground Expansion
Description:
This grant request expands camping opportunities at Steamboat Rock State Park. This Park is a destination campground, with 79% of campers coming from Westside counties or out of state. During the May 15 to Sept. 15 reservation season, visitor stays are extended, with the third highest occupancy rate in the State Parks system. Consequently, the existing campground is constantly full (during our peak-use season), which excludes many potential users. This pushes some campers out into undeveloped "ad hoc" sites around the lake, with the predictable environmental impacts. State Parks' request begins phase one of the campground expansion and involves developing 37 full service campsites and 8 rustic cabin sites, with supporting infrastructure. Infrastructure expansion includes water line upsizing, potable water storage, and expansion of the sewage lagoon capacity. The project also includes development of in-fill areas between current camp sites, while maintaining good distance between "camp wheels". Economical future in-fill expansion will be made possible by infrastructure upsizing.
