Description:

This project begins site acquisiitons in Douglas County that protect at least six rare shrub steppe wildlife element occurrences and at least two high priority plant communities. It has the largest and only potentially viable population of pygmy rabbits. It also has sage grouse, the Washington ground squirrel, sage thrashers, sage sparrows and Brewer's sparrows. There are no comparable sites for shrub steppe in the state.

WHAT IS THE WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
