Point No Point Access
Description:
The objectives of the project are to provide improved and expanded public access to saltwater beaches, freshwater and estuarine wetlands, an historic Coast Guard Lighthouse and a large, forested county park. The subject parcels will unify state owned tidelands, USCG owned uplands, county owned uplands and a WDFW owned/concession operated public boat access and camp area into approximately 130+ acres of some of the most spectacular of Puget Sound's waterfront and open about 1.5 mile of public tidelands to a range of public uses including shellfish gathering, salmon fishing, bird watching and picnicking. In addition to the improved saltwater access opportunities the areas will allow for public enjoyment of the natural and human history such as the Coast Guard Light Station, and the site of the signing of the Treaty of Point No Point. The properties include developed and developable area, tidelands, two types of emergent wetlands, regularly flooded intertidal wetlands and permanently flooded riverine wetland. It has been of the highest priority in the Kitsap County Open Space acquisition program for over 6 years and has been the subject of extensive public process which has been underway during this period and continues presently under the leadership of Kitsap County with active participation of the Point No Point community, WDFW, and the Point No Point S' Klallam Tribe.
