Description:

This project is the acquisition of a 43 acre parcel of land located just south of and abutting the City of Ferndale's Pioneer Park. The City has worked to acquire this parcel for many years to expand Pioneer Park. The property consists of approximatley 5 acres of pond, 20 acres of wetland, 18 acres of upland and 800 linear feet of Nooksack River shoreline. Eventual project development is antipacitated to provide softball/baseball fields, trail, soccer fields, parking areas, open play areas, protectin of environmentally sensitve areas and preservation of habitat. The results of this acquisition will also enable the City of Ferndale to provide additional public access to the Nooksack River.

Location:
Take exit 262 from I-5 and travel west on Main Street over the Nooksack River Bridge to First Avenue. Turn south on First Avenue and travel three blocks to Cherry Street. Turn East on Cherry Street, travel one block to Front Street.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
