Description:

This project covers the final phase of the Oyster Plant Park. The City of Poulsbo has been developing the project to provide, preserve and enhance a piece of waterfront property for public access to the Liberty Bay waterfront. This historical piece of property is the former Coast Oyster Plant, and was a working oyster processing plant through 1994. The City has a 25 year agreement with the WDFW to improve and maintain the property for public recreation purposes. It is listed on the city's CIP as project #3 of 20. This plan has been put together after meetings with neighbors and interested citizens alike. It will include total pier restoration and marine science, wildlife and historical interpretive areas under a shelter on the pier. The former pier was dismantled as it deteriorated beyond safe use. The City does not have any public access on the southwest side of the city, and this pier will provide a place for wildlife and recreational activity viewing in the bay. It will also be a stop on the newly funded Liberty Bay Waterfront Trail, scheduled to begin construction in the fall of 2000. All of these "pieces" will provide local residents and visitors alike, the resources to get to and enjoy the shoreline. This area is also a part of the Poulsbo Fjords Audubon Wildlife Viewing Area.
