Millersylvania- Miles Acquisition

Millersylvania State Park is an 842 acre camping park situated on Deep Lake, just south of Olympia. The park was established by the Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC in 1935. The goal of this proposal is acquire approximately 70 acres adjacent to the park boundary. The site includes forested acreage, a large pond suitable for swimming, and open upland area. Currently, the property is owned by Miles Sand and Gravel, a willing seller. A portion of the property is an active gravel mining site however, the gravel resource is limited, and the company plans to complete removal within the next two months. State Parks is in the process of completing a purchase and sale agreement for the property, and working with the company on their reclamation plan in order to enhance the recreational appeal of the site. This parcel was identified as a priority for acquisition during State Parks' Classification and Management Planning process, or CAMP completed in 2002. This planning process included an opportunity for public, private, tribal, and non-profit groups to comment. Some of the comments received support this proposal. The acquisition would allow for an expanded day-use site with new swimming access, forested trails, play areas, and additional rustic cabin overnight facilities. State Parks has completed a concept development plan for the proposed site.
