Description:

The City of Kent is requesting $1,229,750 to be applied towards the acquisition of four parcels of land totaling 6.62 acres near Panther Lake, located in unincorporated King County. The area where the subject property is located is part of the City Potential Annexation Area that is anticipated to be annexed within the next two to three years into the City. The Matinjussi property is a 5.62 acre parcel that has approximately 450 feet of shoreline on Panther Lake. The remaining three parcels make up the one acre Van Dyke property which has approximately 150 feet of street frontage. Currently there are no passive recreation amenities in this area with an estimated population of about 38,000. The Matinjussi property is the only remaining natural land around Panther Lake that can be utilized for passive recreation. The closest passive recreation opportunities are located about five miles to the south in the City of Kent. A car-top boat launch would be added to grant small non-motorized boats access to the lake. Existing trails onsite would be expanded and improved upon to give people a chance to enjoy the property’s native vegetation, wildlife and lake views. Benches and trails added to the extensive gardens that are existing in the middle of the property. A pier would be added that extends over the lake to allow for nature watching and easy fishing access. Also a picnic shelter, restroom, playground, and 36 stall parking lot would be constructed.
