Project Type: Development
Date Funded: 2005

Description:

Located on the Snohomish River Channel, the project is the major open space element within a 65 acre mixed-use maritime center proposed by the Port of Everett and Maritime Trust Company on the Everett waterfront. The development is oriented around 13th Street that runs the length of the upland site. The park and amphitheater space is at the end of 13th Street where it meets the shoreline adjacent to a shoreline esplanade. The space is directly adjacent to future buildings that will include mixed-use development that provides services such as a hotel, restaurants, and retail. The space will act as a nexus of activity between residents, visitors, and the boating community. The plan of the park and amphitheater is an ellipse, with a raised stage to the northwest of a central plaza, surrounded by amphitheater seating and a curving ADA access ramp. Permanent seating capacity is 400, but the plaza is flexible enough to accommodate an additional 2,000 for large events. At one end of the plaza, interactive, floor-jet fountains activate the space, allowing for informal use. Low seating plinths follow the curve of the plaza and allow views of the water, setting sun, and future tall ship moorage. Groves of trees, lawn, and adjacent outdoor uses provide diverse environments for residents and visitors. Quality materials and lighting elegantly express the parks proximity to water and the shifting light of its marine climate.
