Larry Scott Trail Dev Segments 3 & 4
Description:
This project will construct 1.5 miles of non motorized multi use trail and parallel equestrian track to extend the Larry Scott Memorial Trail. The application includes funding to acquire the remaining land or easement needed to complete public ownership along segment 3 of the trail. When complete, the Larry Scott Memorial Trail will extend 8.5 miles from Port Townsend, southwest to Discovery Bay. This trail is a key component of the Olympic Discovery Trail, which links the Port Townsend ferry terminal to Port Angeles, and eventually the Pacific. The trail is popular with residents who commute via bicycle or foot, tourists, and local recreationists. The southern end of the trail near Discovery Bay will become a hub for local loop trails planned to serve Port Hadlock, Chimacum and Kala Point.
To reach the northwest corner of the proposed project, proceed 6 miles northwest from the Hood Canal bridge on State Route 104 to the intersection of State Route 19. Turn north onto State Route 19 for approximately 16 miles and continue through a signaled intersection onto State Route 20. At 2 miles, turn left at the stoplight at Mill Road, and immediately turn left again to head south on Discovery Road, continuing 0.6 miles to the intersection of Cape George Road. Turn right and continue 0.6 miles to the intersection with Nelson's Landing Road. Trail Segment 3 runs parallel to Cape George Road on the left, crosses Nelson's Landing at the intersection, continues ahead adjacent to the barn and corral visible on the left and after about 700 feet curves away to the south through the wooded property. The proposed construction also extends behind you for approximately .85 miles to the east, where it crosses under State Route 20. To reach the end of proposed trail development, backtrack 0.6 miles to Discovery Road and turn right [south]. Follow Discovery Road 2.15 miles, passing Douglas Way on the right, to the edge of Chevy Chase Golf Course on the right. The proposed construction continues along the right side of Discovery Road for 1,360 feet beyond Douglas Way and ends with a connection to the road. To return to Port Townsend or the Hood Canal bridge, continue straight ahead on what is now called Four Corners Road until it intersects State Route 19. Turn onto State Route 19, right for the route to the bridge, or left to go to Port Townsend.
