Description:

Larry Scott Memorial Park is a 7 mile trail corridor for non motorized uses which serves as the eastern terminus of the 51 mile Olympic Discovery Trail. The trail corridor is presently being acquired under another IAC grant. The proposed project is to develop portions of the first 2 mile trail between the City of Port Townsend and Mill Road near SR20. This trail segment travels along a spectacular stretch of shoreline, past wetlands, wildlife areas, and forest as well as passing industrial facilities such as the area's largest employer, the Port Townsend Paper Mill. The trail will serve pedestrians and bicyclists, and will provide a separate equestrian path along all but the final one mile stretch in which geographical constraints preclude horses. The main path will be surfaced with crushed rock. There will be several interpretive waysides along the trail, scenic viewpoints, and facilities for picnicking. All portions of the trail and trail amenities will be barrier free and fully accessible.

Location:
One end of this trail segment intersects Mill Road, several hundred feet south of the traffic signal at Mill Road and SR20, at the entrance to the City of Port Townsend. The trail runs from this point along the railway grade to the trail head at Haines Place Park and Ride adjacent to Kah Tai Park in Port Townsend.

WHAT IS THE WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
