Lakewood Skate Park
Description:
The youth of Lakewood have been consistent advocates of a skate park within the City. Lakewood is undertaking a process of youth involvement whereby the skating community will help design this skate park to meet their needs. We will locate this facility at Ft. Steilacoom Park, which is owned by the state of Washington and is managed by Pierce County Parks. Ft. Steilacoom Park is 270 acres with a variety of active and passive recreational uses. It is a historical, regional park. The project would be a joint venture with Lakewood and Pierce County Parks, although Lakewood is taking the lead in coordinating the project. A Pierce County planner will be the lead designer for the project. This skate park will be a state-of-the-art in-ground 10,000 to 12,000 square feet concrete structure serving skaters of all skill levels. This park will be a regional attraction, serving not only the youth of Lakewood, but the cities of Steilacoom and University Place as well. Both communities are within a few miles of the proposed skate park.
