Juanita Beach Park Redevelop Phase 1
Description:
The goal of this project is to improve public access and enjoyment of Juanita Beach Park on Lake Washington. The poor existing conditions in the park result in reduced public access and enjoyment and degraded habitat value. Poor water quality within the swimming beach area results in closure of the beach periodically for health and safety reasons.
The scope of work for this project includes a new path/promenade along the shoreline, restoration of a portion of Juanita Creek within the park, creation of water quality marshes to filter water before contaminants reach the lake, a raised boardwalk over the restored creek and created marsh, and enhanced trail access points from the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Interpretive and educational features will be important features of the creek restoration project. The project is designed using Low Impact Development (LID) techniques.
Benefits of the project include improved water quality thereby reducing beach closures during peak swimming season. New accessible paths, trails, and boardwalks will provide better access for citizens. Greater opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking and other recreation activities will result.
Redevelopment of Juanita Beach Park will provide citizens with a safe and scenic place to enjoy outdoor recreation activities.
