H.J. Carroll Park Third Field
Description:
H.J. Carroll Park is a heavily used regional park south of Port Townsend that was largely developed during the past six years by volunteers, sports clubs and community associations. Existing amenities include a picnic shelter, playground, ball field, soccer field, basketball/volleyball courts, a BMX practice track, restrooms/concession building, perimeter trail and interpretive shelter. Past donations include over $1,438,300 in park improvements. This project will fund a new multipurpose sports field to accommodate baseball, softball and soccer use plus provide alternate layouts in the existing soccer field, thereby reducing wear patterns. Universal access enhancements will improve the site for users of all mobility levels by providing ADA van parking stalls, and ADA compliant routes of travel to existing features. In the playground, existing pea gravel surfacing will be removed and replaced with approved accessible wood fiber surfacing providing access to existing and new accessible play elements. Existing irrigation will be enhanced with an in line on demand pressure booster pump that will improve turf conditions in fields 1 and 2 and allow expansion to new field 3. Improvements to an existing BMX course and the creation of a skateboard area are also proposed.
