Description:

This application is for the acquisition and development of a 15.8 acre neighborhood park, Friendly Grove Park. Proposed facilities include a paved, barrier-free loop trail for off-street walking, biking or skating, a playground, picnic shelter and sites, a basketball court, tennis court, playfields, a restroom and a parking lot. Turf and landscape improvements will be made to improve play areas and to enhance the scenic beauty of the park. Olympia's comprehensive plan recommends a neighborhood park within a 10-20 minute walk of every residence. As shown on the location map, this neighborhood does not have a park within the 1/2 mile service radius. During 1996, Olympia had the neighborhood associations nominate sites for neighborhood parks based on criteria developed by the community. Friendly Grove Park was acquired as a result of this process. In 1998, a park planning workshop was held with the neighborhood. The neighbors will continue to be involved in future park planning, design and management decisions.
