Description:

The purpose of this agreement is to construct a 6.1 mile trail along an abandoned Burlington Northern Railroad right of way. The proposed asphalt trail will be 12' wide with 2' shoulders. A parallell 8' wide natural surface trail will be constructed for backpackers and equestrian users. Trailheads, located west of South Prairie and east of Orting, provide restrooms and parking for RV's, cars and trailers. These will be expanded with the addition of picnic facilities and signage. This project is part of the Foothills Trail which is a 24 mile segment of the Nisqually to Mt. Rainier Trail System.

WHAT IS THE WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
