Flaming Geyser ADA Fishing Access

WWRP Applicant: State Parks
RCO Project Number: 06-1976
Recipient: State Parks
County: King
Legislative District: 31st
WWRP Category: Water Access
WWRP Grant: $336,176
Project Type: Development
Date Funded: 2007

Description:

Flaming Geyser State Park is a 520 acre day-use park with more than three miles of shoreline on the Green River. It is the farthest downstream part of the 2000+ acre Green River Gorge Area managed by Washington State Parks. About 250,000 people visit Flaming Geyser State Park per year. The park is popular for fishing, wading, tubing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, bird watching, and flying remote-controlled airplanes. Flaming Geyser is a popular spot for steelhead fishing, but fishermen also catch chum and coho salmon, sea-run cutthroat, resident trout, and whitefish. The park is one of the easiest to access fishing areas on the river, which makes it an ideal location for an accessible fishing facility. This project would develop facilities to allow persons with disabilities to access the river for fishing, and also an accessible, covered fish-cleaning station. There are no other accessible fishing facilities nearby. An added benefit of this project is that it will allow for easier access to the river in general, so it could be used by waders, swimmers, or tubers, as well as by fishermen.
