The schools are scheduled to open in the fall of 2001 and will serve 1600 students. The city of Vancouver will also proceed this summer with the phase 1 development of Fisher Basin Park. Phase 1 improvements will include grading, seeding, some play equipment, walking paths, and parking. The phase 2 project, submitted for IAC consideration, includes a play court with 3 basketball hoops, 2 tennis courts, multi-purpose play fields, picnic tables, walking paths, benches, signing, landscaping, irrigation, and restrooms. The city and school district have fully coordinated the design of facilities. In addition, the school/park complex will provide the only developed community park facilities within a 1-mile service area radius. The service area includes extensive single- and multi-family housing. Over 12,000 people currently live within the service area. The population at build out will increase to about 25,000 people.
