Description:

This project involves the phase 2 acquisition of Evergreen Fisheries Park located near the Columbia River in south-central Vancouver. The proposed acquisition is 9.83 acres and includes 2.5-acre "East Biddle Lake," which is the largest in a series of 5 interconnected ponds (the other 4 are within current park boundaries). The existing park site covers 49 acres. Approximately 4 acres are occupied by WDFW's Vancouver Trout Hatchery, which serves as an outdoor education center for more than 6,000 K-12 and community college students each year. In 1997, the IAC provided funding assistance for phase 1 development of Evergreen Fisheries Park. Improvements will include walking paths, a wheelchair accessible fishing pier, picnic tables, play equipment, a shelter, and signing. This project will complete acquisition of Evergreen Fisheries Park, including the 5 interconnected ponds, and will provide the landbase for extended hiking trails, fishing piers, viewpoints, picnic sites, and interpretive signing. The project site is located immediately adjacent to the Columbia River Renaissance regional trail system which extends between Vancouver and Camas. The service area for Evergreen Fisheries Park encompasses the Vancouver Urban Growth Area, whose population is over 230,000 people.
