Columbia River Small Craft Access
Description:
The Columbia River Small Craft Access project will provide citizens and visitors of the greater Wenatchee region water access to the Columbia River for small, non-motorized boats such as rowing shells, sea kayaks, canoes, and flatwater racing kayaks. The project includes development of restrooms, showers, an interpretive trail, landscaping, additional parking, and riparian habitat enhancement. The project will provide much-needed water access to replace an inadequate existing facility that is grossly over-utilized and allow for greater small craft educational opportunities, including youth and high school rowing and kayaking programs, senior programs, and large events. Upland support facilities include two restrooms, showers, and a 45-space parking facility. Water access components of the project include an 8' X 80' PVC loading float, paved access trail, and interpretive signage. The project supports the existing waterfront trail system (funded, in part, through IAC) currently managed by the Chelan County P.U.D. #1 and enhances the overall character of the specific site. Tremendous community support exists for the project from the City of Wenatchee, Chelan County P.U.D. #1, Wenatchee School District, and Chelan County.
