Description:

This project will develop seven miles of trail corridor, including a major 20-acre trailhead facility at 89th Avenue. The project will construct and pave the trail corridor from Fir Tree Road to the connection with the Yelm-Tenino Trail. The trail will be 17 feet wide with a 12-foot paved surface. An equestrian trail will be constructed adjacent to the paved surface. The trailhead facility will include parking for 80 cars and 12 horse trailers. It will also include a restroom facility, picnic areas and shelters, and playfield. Scenic viewpoints will be constructed at two locations along the approximate 1.5-mile stretch of the Deschutes River adjacent to the trail. This sponsor match for this project is the acquisition of the 12.45-mile Gate to Belmore railroad corridor. The Gate to Belmore runs from near Black Lake to just north of Rochester.

Location:
The existing Chehalis Western Trail runs from Pacific Avenue near South Sound Mall in Lacey to just south of State Route 507. Phase two will continue the trail to the south.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
