Cape Disappointment Acquisitions 2003

WWRP Applicant: State Parks
RCO Project Number: 02-1239
County: Pacific
Legislative District: 19th
WWRP Category: State Parks
WWRP Grant: $750,000
Project Type: Acquisition
Date Funded: 2004

Description:

This project is to obtain approximately 40 acres of uplands adjacent to the Beard's Hollow area of Fort Canby State Park. State Parks is in the process of obtaining 40 acres of dune area abutting this land via a land exchange. One landowner owns the uplands and the adjoining the dune area. These uplands offer excellent vistas west to the Pacific Ocean and north up the Long Beach Peninsula. The landowner currently has applications in to the City of Ilwaco to develop the upland property. Such a development would mar the currently unimpaired vista. State Parks anticipates development of no more that five acres of the property if purchased; that would be for an entry point to Fort Canby and initial point of contact. This would be well away from the vista area.
