Description:

This project involves the phase 2 acquisition of Camp Currie Regional Park located on Lacamas Lake and Lacamas Creek in southeast Clark County. The project site borders the Camas City Limits and is located 1 mile east of Vancouver, whose urban area population is over 230,000 people. The project site covers 174 acres and includes almost 1 mile of shoreline. The property will provide opportunities for fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, open play, and other day-use, family-oriented activities. The IAC provided funding assistance in 1998 for the phase 1 acquisition, which included 85 acres and both individual and group camp facilities. In addition, Lacamas Heritage Trail, an 8-mile, hike/bike trail, is located immediately west of the project site. The current owner of the property is the Columbia Land Trust, which purchased the site in 1998 from the James River Corporation due to the high chance of conversion. James River had declared the property surplus and was actively marketing the site for large-lot residential development, hobby farms, and other uses. This phase 2 project will complete acquisition of this top priority regional park.
