Buckley Foothills Trail Extension
Description:
The City of Buckley plans to complete development of the regional Foothills Trail within its city limits. The City has the responsibility for the maintenance of the existing trail that now ends at the Buckley National Guard Armory on River Avenue. This project will extend the trail by 2,400 feet, be paved to an 11 foot width, and be ADA accessible with level landings and signage provided where grades dictate. This segment will run north from the Armory along the abandoned railroad grade alignment (now owned by the City) to the southerly boundary of the Puget Sound Energy flume. The trail will parallel the flume eastward to the River Avenue right-of-way, where it will cross the flume using the old highway bridge, then continue north on the River Avenue right-of-way to the south side of the White River. This Foothills Trail segment will end at the existing 7.93 acre Riverside Park, which includes a gravel parking lot and a level grassy area.
Take State Route (SR) 410 east to Buckley. Turn right onto Park Avenue. Turn left onto River Avenue for approximately 700 feet. Take immediate left into the National Guard Armory parking lot. The old Foothills Trail ends northwest of the parking lot and the new one will start here traveling northeast. Continue north on River Avenue (road becomes gravel at the PSE Flume bridge) an additional half (0.5) mile to the Riverside Park. This is the northern end of the proposed Foothills Trail extension.
