Description:

The Bainbridge Island Park District is seeking to purchase 10 acres near the head of Blakely Harbor to provide much needed public saltwater access and recreational opportunities including the landings for small craft such as kayaks and car top rowing shells or small sail boats, picnic areas, shore access for boaters, and water related recreational activities. The site offers boaters a safe haven and a pristine visual experience including a forested backdrop of one of the most idyllic beaches on Bainbridge Island offering sandy southern shoreline and two plateau areas for easy access and visual enjoyment. Remnant historic features are also found here dating from an era when Port Blakey was the largest mill and ship building facility in Puget Sound. The site is easily accessed by road from Blakely Ave NE and 3-Tee Road. Additionally, there exists important bird habitat found on and surrounding the site. The unique historical, visual, and environmental quality of this site make it an important opportunity for water access, both by land and by users of the Washington Water Trails.
