Description:

The City of Aberdeen is seeking funds for Phase 2 developmet at our Chehalis Riverfront Athletic Complex. This project represents Phase 2 at this 54.8 acre site, and will result in the development of 1 Babe Ruth size baseball field, 2 softball/baseball fields, 3 practice fields, restrooms & other amenities. Currently, there are no dedicated fields for girls/women's ball teams. This project will provide two fields for 41 girls' youth fastpitch softball teams, 2 Aberdeen High School girls' fastpitch softball teams, and 1 Grays Harbor College women's fastpitch team. Construction will also provide a much needed second field for our 22 Babe Ruth teams, 3 Aberdeen High boys baseball teams and the Grays Harbor College men's baseball team. All teams will be able to use the practice fields. Total cost for Phase 2 is $756,288. The Bishop Foundation is providing the match. The City will pay for all Architectural & Engineering fees, which, though substantial, are not included as part of this grant request. Currently, the City is developing site access, parking and soccer fields. Funding for Phase 1 came from the Youth Athletic Facilities program, and several local donations, separate from Phase 2 funding. Future phases will include picnic areas, scenic walking paths and other park amenities. Ultimately, the City is developing a $4.4 million complex that will serve the entire Region.
