Betz North Park
Description:
This project will acquire approximately 50 acres of land for the purpose of creating one of the largest multipurpose recreation areas in Southwest Spokane County. When completed, the park will contain a minimum of an outdoor swimming pool (aquatic center), four Softball/Baseball fields, one major Baseball field, four soccer fields, a major picnic facility, jogging trail, playground and tot lot facilities. This project has been and continues to be the number one priority of the Cheney Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan since its adoption in 1993. It is vital that this project be funded this year as our purchase option expires in 1997. Due to our recent entrance into the GMA in Spokane County, it appears that a maximum of 200 acres will be allowed to be added to our existing City limits within our UGA. Fifty acres of this area is this proposed 50 acre acquisition site. Therefore, the entire future of Cheney's park system rests on the success of this acquisition. Simply put, there are no other lands within our UGA of a size adequate to fulfill the needs of the community for a major park.
