Description:

Battle Point Park is the largest regional park on Bainbridge Island and provides a balance of passive and active uses. The park's original 90-acre design provided for three overlapping soccer and base ball fields and two adult size soccer fields; fields 4 and 5. Developed in the mid-1980s, all but fields 4 and 5 have been redeveloped. Now outdated, field redevelopment of these two fields is urgently needed to satisfy adult and youth recreational and select soccer play. Deteriorating drainage has made one field virtually unplayable. Additionally, population growth continues at 2% per year. Growth in demand also occurs in the number of user groups, including Lacrosse. Improving fields 4 and 5 will primarily benefit local players and visiting teams. There are 2,089 local soccer and Lacrosse team participants that will benefit from these proposed improvements. Redeveloping these fields will also provide cost savings to the community by eliminating the need to purchase additional active use land and provide for field development elsewhere. Field redevelopment on fields 4 and 5 will reduce maintenance concerns and increase field use rotation. Additionally, field redevelopment will restore vitality to these cornerstone field facilities in this popular regional park.
