Asotin Aquatic Center Development

In the fall of 2001, Asotin County passed a $6,720,000 bond levy to construct a family aquatic center. Situated in the southeast corner of the state, this facility will serve the residents of Asotin County and other neighbor communities in the Lewis/Clark valley. The aquatic center will have outdoor and indoor components. The outdoor facility will include a zero depth pool, a traditional lap pool, a lazy river, waterslides, interactive water play structures, picnic sites, a playground and sand volleyball courts. The indoor facility will include a traditional lap pool, a therapy pool, guard room, class/training room, locker/restrooms and a food service area. The only public pool in Asotin County has outlived its useful life. The pool will close at the end of this summer due to mechanical system failure. There are only 2 other public pools in the area, the most recent was constructed in 1968. The climate is southeast Washington is extreme is the summer with temperatures frequently exceeding 90 degrees. Swimming in the local rivers is hazardous and often prohibited by e. coli contamination. This project will provide a safe environment for recreation. By design, the facility will attract a wide range of age groups that will promote intergenerational understanding, it will serve as a resource for swimming, water safety and many other water related activities and will address the need for rehabilitation and physical therapy.

From Walla Walla: Take Highway 12 East to the edge of Clarkston city limits, turn right onto 15th, proceed south to the intersection of 15th, Fleshman Way and Dustan Loop, turn right on Dustan Loop and proceed 2 miles to the Asotin County Fred Poole Recreation Center site.
