3 local counties get almost $238,000 in Outdoor Grants
A state board that finances recreation and conservation projects announced today that it is awarding 22 counties, including Thurston, Mason and Grays Harbor, more than $8 million in grants, a news release says.

Fifty-three projects are set to benefit from the state Recreation and Conversation Funding Board grants, including those to preserve farmland, address off-road vehicle noise and improve athletic fields.
Thurston County will receive $105,000, Mason $72,000 and Grays Harbor $60,938. The breakdown of the 53 projects: • Ten farmland protection grants, totally more than $4.7 million, come from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program. • More than $3 million will go to 33 projects to improving athletic fields from the Youth Athletic Facilities grant program, which was recreated through a referendum that also provided public financing for the Seahawks’ stadium. • Ten grants totalling more than $313,000 to address off-road vehicle noise enforcement comes from gas taxes and off-road vehicle fees through the Non-highway and Off-Road Vehicle Activities program. Grant applicants will contribute more than $17.7 million in matching funds and resources, making the total investment more than $25.8 million.
