City of Mercer Island officials and local Eagle Scouts will be joined by representatives from Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, the Department of Natural Resources and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition to dedicate the new 2,445 foot trail through the open space. An official ribbon cutting will be followed by a short hike on the trail (so bring your walking shoes!)
The SE 53rd Place Open Space is 25 acres of natural, wooded ravine in the near-center of Mercer Island that was originally purchased in 1991 through a grant from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program and matching funding from a voter-approved King County Parks and Open Space Bond Issue. The new trail was constructed through a partnership of the City of Mercer Island and the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust.
