WWRP Grant Program
This page gives a definition of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP).
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant
program that provides funding to protect habitat, preserve working farms and create new local and state parks.
The WWRP (RCW 79A.15) is administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office or RCO (formerly the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation or IAC) and is funded by the legislature. The agency's competitive evaluation process ensures that only the best new park and habitat projects are funded.
Local, state, and tribal agencies submit applications for WWRP grants to the RCO. An independent team of experts ranks the projects based on the benefits to the public, the level of threat to the property or the presence of threatened or endangered species. The Governor and Legislature set the funding level and approve the list of WWRP projects.
